Writing Contest - The Leopold Writing Program.

Grades 6-8. The maximum number of words in the essay for this grade division is 900 and the minimum is 400. The Spring 2020 session has closed. Teachers who submit winning essays will be notified personally by telephone or e-mail using the contact information provided in your registration. Teachers can expect to hear results approximately 10 to 12 weeks after the close of the competition.

The contest is open to middle and high school students enrolled in public, private, parochial and charter schools and home-schooled students of equivalent grade status in the United States and its Territories. Middle school students are defined as those in grades 6-8. High school students are those in grades 9-12. Essay Length and Format.

The Middle School Contest is open to all United States citizens or legal residents who are students in grades 6-8 and are 11 to 15 years old at the time of entry, attending public, private, religious, home school program and charter schools.

For each contest, students read and write an essay on a selected YES! Magazine article. Provocative writing prompts push students to deeper questioning of the article’s content and their personal experiences and opinions. Contests are offered for fall, winter, and spring quarters. We divide contestants into four categories: middle school (grades 6-8), high school (grades 9-12), university.

Essay Contest Rules. Please read all of the Essay Contest rules before submitting your manuscript. Submission Details. Your essay may be hand-written or typed. Hand-written essays should be submitted on regular notebook paper, double-spaced with a blank line between each written line and no writing on the back of the page. Typed essays are to be submitted double-spaced and in Times New Roman.

Contest is open to all 3 rd-12 th grade students in Hamilton, Bradley, and Marion counties of Tennessee. Your essay must be 1,000 words or less. Only one essay per student may be submitted. Middle School Students in (grades 6-8): Submissions must be 600 to 1100 words. Write a persuasive essay to present to your city or county council that makes the case for an infrastructure improvement in your community and your chosen solution to the problem.

How to Write Personal Essays for Writing Contests? Subject matters for personal essays are usually based on one’s experience or knowledge. For instance, a travel essay may be about a person’s trip to a foreign country. If an individual wishes to use this topic as an entry for a contest winning essay, then they have to find a way to make it special.

The day of announcing the winners of the essay contest that every one of us has been eagerly waiting for is finally here with us. The essay writing competition has come to an end and we are overwhelmed by the numerous literary masterpieces received. We would like to thank all students who made the contest a success through their entries as they were all charming. The judges were all together.

The first place essay, which is not included below, was written by Keshav Ramesh, a sixth-grader at TEMS. The second place winner in the grades 6-8 competition was Van Anhy Thi Tran, a seventh.
